Meet the Hawaiian Properties Team

  • Jarrett Walters - President

    Jarrett is President of Hawaiian Properties, bringing over two decades of leadership experience in operations, finance, and strategic development. Prior to joining Hawaiian Properties, he was President and CEO of Hawaiian Building Maintenance, where he spent more than 18 years in a range of executive roles including COO and Vice President of Operations. During his tenure, he led a workforce of over 650 employees across 300 locations spanning four islands.


    Beyond his professional achievements, Jarrett is deeply committed to community service. He currently serves on the boards of the GIFT Foundation of Hawaii, Young Presidents’ Organization, Holy Nativity School, Hawaii Baptist Academy Alumni Advisory Board, and the Waikiki Improvement Association. He also contributes to the scholarship committee for Palama Settlement, having previously served two years as its board chair.


    A graduate of Hawaii Baptist Academy, Jarrett earned his bachelor’s degree in politics from Princeton University.

  • Kevin Agena (B), CMCA®, AMS®, Executive Vice President

    Kevin oversees the strategic direction and operations of the company’s community association division. With nearly 40 years in the real estate industry, Kevin has managed a diverse portfolio of condominiums, city, HUD, and residential units, and is currently involved in major developments such as Sky Ala Moana, Park on Keeaumoku, Kali‘u, Kahuina, Muse, and Kuilei Place. He began his career with National Mortgage Real Estate Corp. (now Hawaiian Properties, Ltd.) in 2001, starting as a Property Manager and in 2004 assisted with managing National IndComm, a real estate management company acquired by National Mortgage Real Estate Corp. He earned his broker’s license in 2000, and prior to joining Hawaiian Properties, Kevin honed his property management skills at Hawaiian Island Homes (formerly Savio Realty, Ltd.) for 14 years. A local boy, born and raised in Hawaii, Kevin holds a BBA in Business Management from the University of Hawaii. 

  • Cathy Mak - Chief Financial Officer

    Cathy Mak joined Hawaiian Properties in June 2021 and currently serves as Chief Financial Officer. She leads the company's financial strategy and oversees all aspects of accounting operations. With over 25 years of experience in senior financial leadership, most recently as Vice President of Finance at Aqua-Aston Hospitality, Cathy brings a proven track record in corporate finance, strategic planning, and large-scale systems implementation.


    She is known for successfully managing complex system migrations and cross-functional initiatives that enhance operational performance. Cathy collaborates closely with senior leadership to align financial operations with the company’s broader vision, and she thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments where adaptability and resourcefulness are essential.


    She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Hawaii Pacific University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, majoring in Travel Industry Management. She later earned her Master of Business Administration in Accounting with distinction and passed the CPA examination.


    In addition to her professional accomplishments, Cathy is committed to giving back to the community. She serves as Treasurer and Board Member of Sui Wah School, an organization dedicated to promoting Chinese language and culture in Hawaii. She is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

  • Kanani Kaopua, PCAM®, Senior Vice President

    Kanani Kaopua serves as Senior Vice President at Hawaiian Properties and brings 18 years of experience in the community association management industry, with the past decade dedicated to leadership roles within the company. She initially joined as Vice President and Senior Property Manager and now oversees the condominium division, supporting a large and diverse portfolio of communities. Her background includes managing large-scale, master-planned, and resort developments, and she has served as a trusted liaison between boards, developers, and key stakeholders across residential, commercial, and mixed-use properties. Kanani holds the highest professional designation awarded by Community Associations Institute (CAI), the Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM). She is a respected industry educator and frequent keynote speaker at CAI Hawaii’s board development workshops, where she trains board members on topics such as financial oversight, budgeting, reserve planning, covenant enforcement, and effective governance. She served two consecutive terms on the CAI Hawaii Chapter Board of Directors, including as Chapter President, and is a two-time recipient of the CAI Hawaii Chapter President’s Award. She was also recognized as a member of Pacific Business News’ prestigious 40 Under 40, honoring young professionals making significant impacts in their industries. Outside of her professional role, Kanani volunteers on the Board of Directors for HUGS and serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for the State Judiciary. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her family.

  • Bill Denison, Sr. Vice President / Sr. Community Portfolio Manager

    Bill Denison was President of W. E. Denison Corporation before merging its operations with Hawaiian Properties in January 2023.  Bill graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana in 1968; started his property management career in 1970 and formed W. E. Denison Corporation in 1973.  Bill’s experience includes extensive hotel and condominium hotel operations, condominium rentals, commercial building management and over fifty years of homeowner association management services. Several of the condominium associations Bill has managed include well-known restaurant operations as well as other commercial and mixed-use occupancies. 


    While working full-time in Honolulu, Bill spends his weekends with a growing family on the Big Island of Hawai’i. 

  • Kathy Cooley, CMCA®, AMS®, PCAM®, Senior Vice President/Sr. Community Portfolio Manager, Kona Branch

    Kathy has worked in the community association management industry since 1999 and is knowledgeable in all areas of association and property management. She holds the Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM®), Association Management Specialist (AMS®), and Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA®) designations from the Community Associations Institute (CAI). In her most recent position, she oversaw a team of 15 staff and 68 associations.

  • Shaunagh Haiola, CMCA®, AMS®, Vice President / Sr. Community Portfolio Manager

    Shaunagh is an industry veteran with over 20 years of experience. Due to her knowledge, dedication, organizational and customer service skills, she has been able to successfully manage several of the company’s most challenging and complex associations. Shaunagh has managed townhomes, single-family homes, high rise, and mixed-use condominiums and currently manages eight associations. 

  • Wesley Kawakami, Vice President / Sr. Community Portfolio Manager

    Wesley brings a distinguished background in hospitality, leadership, and financial management to his role at Hawaiian Properties. His 29 years of extensive hotel management experience and innovative approach make him a valuable asset in delivering exceptional service and results for the communities he oversees. In addition to being a Certified Hotel Administrator, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, a Master of Military Art and Science from the United States Army Command and General Staff College, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. His educational foundation provides him with a unique blend of technical expertise, operational strategy, and leadership acumen, which he applies effectively in both hospitality and community management settings. He also serves our state and great nation as a Colonel in the Hawai‘i Army National Guard.

  • Christy Hinds, RS-80955, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, Vice President/Sr. Community Portfolio Manager, Kona

    Christy entered the association management industry in 2008. She has earned her PCAM (Professional Community Association Manager), AMS (Association Management Specialist) and CMCA (Certified Manager of Community Associations) designations and is also a licensed Realtor. Christy has managed a varied portfolio of properties including developer accounts, townhome, community associations, traditional condominium associations, resort properties and commercial complexes. She is highly organized, results oriented, and a problem solver and takes pride in turning a struggling property into a highly desired community. Prior to entering the association management industry, Christy owned two successful small businesses that provided her with an extensive background in business management, accounting and human resources. In her spare time she enjoys baking, spending time with family & her dogs, and traveling. 

  • Benjamin Voss, RB-23527, Vice President / Sr. Property Manager Residential/Commercial Department

    For the past 25 years, Ben Voss has built his brand and reputation by enhancing customer experience and satisfaction across industries—including Real Estate. Prior to extending this passion to Hawaiian Properties, Ben served as Vice President for one of the largest privately-owned rental property management companies, Oishi’s Property Management, on Oahu. He was a hands-on senior property manager, provided oversight to more than 1,600 units, and strived to deliver excellent property management services to all of the firm’s clients.


    A creative thinker and native Californian, he has lived on the islands for more than 20 years, driving sales and marketing for fortune 500 companies.


    When he’s not working, Ben enjoys spending time with family, mountain biking, hiking and any outdoor activity.

  • Kristi Hirota-Schmidt, CPM®, CMCA®, AMS®, Vice President of Business Development

    Kristi joined Hawaiian Properties, Ltd. in January 2016 and currently leads the company's marketing and advertising initiatives. Since her arrival, the company has more than doubled the number of properties under management, a testament to her dedication, commitment, and valuable contributions. 


    Prior to her role at Hawaiian Properties, Kristi garnered a decade of experience overseeing the sales and marketing division of one of Hawaii’s largest association management companies. As the VP of Marketing, she was in charge of the sales and marketing activities across Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Lanai, and the Big Island. Kristi also coordinated the company's advertising and community outreach efforts. 


    Recognized for her achievements, Kristi was selected as one of Hawaii's top young business leaders in the Pacific Business News "Forty Under 40 2009.” Currently, she serves as President of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) - Hawaii Chapter and holds the esteemed position of Governing Councilor at IREM International. Additionally, she has served as President of the Rotary Club of West Honolulu, President of the West Honolulu Rotary Club Foundation, President of the West Oahu Economic Development Association (WOEDA), and Vice President of Membership for Toastmasters International. 


    Kristi’s dedication to community service includes volunteer work as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused and neglected children and a Grief Facilitator for Kids Hurt Too. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Hawaii.


  • Kristin Tani, Vice President/General Manager of Marina Hawaii Vacations

    Kristin is the Vice President/General Manager of Marina Hawaii Vacations, having joined in January 2023 to lead the company’s growth and modernization. Since then, she has driven strategic initiatives to expand inventory, boost revenue, streamline operations, and enhance both guest services and owner engagement. Under her leadership, the company launched a new website, adopted advanced technology, completed 40 renovations and upgrades, and welcomed dozens of new owners. Before joining Marina Hawaii Vacations, Kristin held leadership roles with Hilton Grand Vacations, Hilton Hawaiian Village, Hyatt Hotels and the AOAO of Waikiki Banyan. With over 20 years of leadership experience directing large-scale operations at high-occupancy resorts, Kristin has contributed to the opening of four properties and managed major capital projects, including full DWV pipe replacement, multiple spall repair projects, and numerous resort renovations. She holds an Accredited Residential Manager (ARM) certification and a 30-hour OSHA certification for General Industry. Born and raised on Oahu, Kristin is a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a degree in Travel Industry Management. She also serves as a Board Member for the Ilikai Marina AOAO. Outside of work, Kristin enjoys volunteering at her children’s school, supporting their sporting activities, and spending time at the beach with her family.
